Exclusive: Teaching in China  IGCSE A Level | Hangzhou | Start September 2009

Our client is seeking to recruit experienced and qualified A level and IGCSE subject teachers of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Business Studies, Economics, Biology and Computer Science, Art and Design, Thinking Skills, Geography and English.

This is a new campus that is opening in September 2009 in Hangzhou. We are looking for 30+ teachers to be able to start in September 2009.

About Hangzhou

Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang province and its political, economic and cultural center. With its famous natural beauty and cultural heritages, Hangzhou is one of China's most important tourist venues.

The City, the southern terminus of the Grand Canal, is located on the lower reaches of the Qiantang River in southeast China, a superior position in the Yangtze Delta and only 180 kilometers from Shanghai. Hangzhou has a subtropical monsoon type climate with four quite distinct seasons. However, it is neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter making it a year round destination.

Responsibilities:

  1. Teach up to 20 teaching periods per week. Each period is 40 minutes.
  2. Deliver the CIE (Cambridge International Examinations) course syllabus, teaching relevant IGCSE and A level subject course in English.
  3. Assign and assess regular appropriate homework.
  4. Supervise students and keep an accurate record of student's attendance learning progress.
  5. Contribute positively to build up teaching resources for the relevant subject.
  6. Prepare students' periodic school reports (twice per term)
  7. Attend meetings as requested (e.g. parents' meetings, staff meetings, as well as any other reasonable appropriate meetings/promotional events).
  8. Carry out various other periodic duties designed to enhance the learning experience of students and smooth functioning of the centre (e.g. detention duty).
  9. Participate in and/or help organize extracurricular activities.
  10. Provide reference letters and possibly guidance services to students for their university applications.

Highlights:

A level - the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level is the 'gold standard' of CIE qualifications, and recognised by universities worldwide. Good A level grades can be a key to admission for all the world's major Anglophone universities, and in some countries, A level qualifications can even earn advanced credit, sometimes resulting in up to one full year of course credit.

The centre has been working closely with the Shanghai Normal University and shares their high quality teaching facilities and human resources to provide the best possible education for its students.

They adopt a 'Doubly Insured' teaching methodology, which means they have two sets of teachers, overseas teachers and Chinese bilingual teachers working cooperatively for each subject. This ensures students benefit from the essence of both the Eastern and Western educational systems.

Qualifications:

  1. University bachelor degree or above in the relevant subject
  2. 2+ years teaching experience in a recognized organization (A-level or IB teaching experience preferred)
  3. Teaching certificate preferred
  4. Care and sensitivity towards other cultures
  5. High commitment to teaching excellence
  6. Good team player

Languages:

English Languages used as the prime Medium of Teaching.

Salary / Pay:

Competitive remuneration package to successful candidate, which includes basic salary, accommodation allowance, plus round trip airfare and medical coverage. Basic rate of pay is from RMB 10,000 to 20,000 per month.

Experience Required:

Prior experience of teaching abroad preferred but not essential.
