International school without licence, attendance invalid
Olomouc, North Moravia, Dec 17 (CTK) - The international school in Olomouc, attended by 27 children of mainly foreign parents, lacks the necessary licence without which the pupils' school attendance cannot be recognised, Education Ministry spokeswoman Katerina Boehmova has told CTK.
She said the school has not met any of the conditions for being granted the licence.
The establishment of the school, designed for children of foreigners, is promoted by the town hall.
"About a half of the pupils are from mixed families or purely Czech ones. The other half comprises small French, Germans, Americans, British and Japanese," school manager Petr Pospisil said.
Czech pupils pay 8,000 crowns for month of attendance, children from outside the EU pay 18,000 crowns.
Some children attend the school for a short period, half a year, for example, while others complete the whole elementary studies there.
The school has bought an education programme, textbooks and school aids according to the British education standards and it has been registered with the British office for national curriculum and qualifications.
"Now the school is being assessed according to the [Czech] ministry's criteria also involving the examination of the educational programme by the Institute of Pedagogic Research in Prague," Boehmova said.
There are eight international schools in the 10-million Czech Republic. Those nearest to Olomouc are in Ostrava and Brno.
